Board of Representatives 18th District

There are 20 voting districts, each containing approximately 5000 residents and each district has two representatives. These 40 representatives serve as volunteers. They are elected by the voters in their districts for a four year term. The present term ends on November 30, 2005.

Board responsibilities include:

* Reviewing and approving the Mayor's operating and capital budgets

* Reviewing and approving all additional requests for money and federal, state and local grants

* Reviewing and approving all leases, sale and purchase of land, contracts and fees

* Writing or reviewing and approving all ordinances

* Creating a panel and approving for referendum any recommended changes to the City Charter

* Approving appointments to boards, commissions and the Mayor's cabinet

* Approving all labor contracts

* Addressing issues that are of concern to city residents
