First Selectman, New Canaan, CT

The First Selectman, as the Chief Executive, is responsible for the procurement and administration of all functions and services required by the Town Charter. The Board of Selectmen, collectively, initiates all budget requests and appropriations, acts as purchasing agent for the Town, and approves all personnel appointments to Boards and Commissions and promotions of the Town's full time employees except for Police Officers and Fire Department professional firefighters. The Selectmen also approve all appointments and re-appointments to all town boards, commissions and committees.

The Administrative Officer assists the First Selectman with these duties and provides administrative assistance to the other two selectmen and all boards and commissions as may be required. The Administrative Officer also acts as Secretary to the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, and Town Council and as such is responsible for meeting schedules, notices, agenda, minutes, and the publication of meeting actions. He also serves as the Town's Personnel Manager, Risk Manager, and Labor Relations Manager.

The Office of the First Selectman also publishes the Town's Annual Report.
