Robert A. Petronella Biographical Information With my background and experience I believe I will well represent and serve the citizens of New Canaan. I grew up in this wonderful town and graduated from N.C.H.S. While growing up in New Canaan, I learned what it means to have a good small town values. These values helped me during my war time service in the U.S. Navy an in my later career as President of the largest trade union in the state of Connecticut. Later, I was elected International Vice President of the 1.3 million member United Food & Commercial Workers Union. I served as Director of this union over all local unions located in New York, New Jersey, and New England. I served as a trustee of our union's National Pension Fund with assets of more than 3 billion dollars. This position gave me lawyers, actuaries, money managers, and employer representatives. Three different governors of Connecticut appointed me to serve on the State Board of Arbitration. I know what it means to have the responsibility for the economic well being of thousands of men and women and their families. As a candidate for the office of Selectman, I bring this strong background and years of helping people solve problems and reach workable solutions. I want to put my experience to work, making New Canaan an even better place for all of us. If you want a real people person to serve as your Selectman, I am your man.
Most Important Issue New Canaan's Senior Citizens should be given tax relief. Our town has provided our youth with the Teen Center, the playing fields at Waveny and Mead Pak, and soon, a remodeled high school. All are well deserved. Now we should recognize the needs of our seniors. These are the people that have lived here most of their lives, raised their children, paid taxes, and contributed services to the town. Now they are facing economic hardship. Or town should recognize their needs and enact a tax program that will help enable our seniors to complete their live in their hometown. |
